App Store Screenshot Sizes and Requirements (2026)
Current iPhone and iPad App Store screenshot sizes, formats, limits, orientation rules, and common upload errors, verified against Apple.
Short answer
Apple allows 1–10 screenshots per supported device display and localization. Use JPG, JPEG, or PNG without transparency. For iPhone, submit a 6.9-inch set or a 6.5-inch set. If the app runs on iPad, a 13-inch iPad set is required.
Current iPhone and iPad screenshot sizes
These are the current App Store Connect display families most iOS developers need. Apple, not Genshot, is the authority. Check Apple: Screenshot specifications before a release if your listing has unusual device support.

Formats, count, and orientation
- Count: 1–10 screenshots for each supported display and localization.
- Formats: JPG, JPEG, or PNG. Screenshots cannot contain an alpha channel or transparency.
- Orientation: portrait and landscape are accepted. Keep the orientation consistent with the experience you show.
- Search visibility: Apple says up to three screenshots may appear in App Store search when no app preview is available, depending on orientation.
- Updates: changing screenshots for an approved app requires a new app version. See Apple: Upload app previews and screenshots.
Which size should a solo developer choose?
- Step 1
Start with the devices your app supports
If the app is iPhone-only, prepare one current iPhone display family. If it runs on iPad, add the required 13-inch iPad family.
- Step 2
Capture the real interface at a clean resolution
Avoid scaling a small screenshot upward. Text and thin icons become visibly soft even when the final canvas has accepted dimensions.
- Step 3
Design the listing image around that source
Keep the app UI legible. Captions, background, and device framing should support the interface, not replace it.
- Step 4
Validate every exported file before upload
Check pixel dimensions, format, transparency, sequence, and localization. A correctly sized canvas can still contain the wrong language or obsolete UI.
Common App Store Connect dimension errors
| Problem | Why it happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong pixel dimensions | A design was exported at a convenient canvas size instead of an accepted Apple size. | Export one exact accepted portrait or landscape size from the table above. |
| Alpha channel rejected | PNG export kept transparent pixels. | Flatten the background or export a non-transparent JPG. |
| iPad set missing | The binary supports iPad but only iPhone screenshots were supplied. | Add the required 13-inch iPad screenshot set. |
| Soft or distorted UI | A small capture was enlarged or the aspect ratio changed. | Recapture at a higher resolution and preserve the source aspect ratio. |
| Mixed orientation or sequence | Files were uploaded in an order that does not tell one clear story. | Choose one orientation per sequence and preview the first three together. |
A short pre-upload checklist
- The screenshots show the current shipping UI.
- Every file matches an accepted Apple pixel size.
- PNG files have no transparency.
- The first three images communicate distinct benefits.
- Small text remains readable on a phone-sized preview.
- The language matches the App Store localization.
- No private account information appears in the UI.
- iPad screenshots are present when the app supports iPad.
