App Store Screenshot Captions: Examples and Editing Checklist
Write short App Store screenshot captions that explain a real outcome, stay readable at thumbnail size, and remain accurate to the UI your app actually shows.
Short answer
A useful App Store screenshot caption names one outcome in plain language and matches the visible screen. Start with the user benefit, remove setup words, and reject any claim the UI cannot prove.
Give every caption one job
The caption should finish the sentence “This screen helps me…” without making the reader decode product terminology. “Plan your week in seconds” has one job. “A powerful and comprehensive planning solution” has several vague ones.
Apple says screenshots should show the app in use. Treat the visible UI as evidence: if the screen shows a weekly plan, write about planning the week—not an unrelated promise about productivity.

Use an ESL-friendly editing pass

Prefer “invoice,” “habit,” or “exam topic” over “workflow” or “experience.”

Choose one verb
Use a familiar action such as plan, find, save, check, send, or review.

Remove warm-up words
Delete “easily,” “simply,” “powerful,” and “all-in-one” unless they add evidence.

Read it at thumbnail size
Export the set and read only the headlines on a phone. Shorten anything you scan twice.
Run a product-truth check before design
- The source screen visibly supports the caption.
- Numbers, prices, rankings, and time savings have a real source.
- The caption does not imply functionality that is still planned.
- Real names, messages, balances, and account information are replaced with fictional examples.
- The same promise is not repeated across several screenshots.
